Since it earned its designation as the Guangzhou Government's "Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ)" in 1993, Nansha has undergone extensive transformation in its infrastructure and city planning, and is fast becoming a modern city.
Nansha has seen a corresponding increase in economic development with the entry of more international firms seeking to leverage the area's favorable conditions. The advantages of manpower, land price and prospective future, have attracted many world-class companies, like Toyota and GE, to set up in Nansha. Such companies, as well as their local counterparts will have a need for talent and advanced technology. The Research Institute at Nansha will be able to meet some of these manpower and techno requirement.
The main focuses of Nansha's development are in IT and technology, as well as port, logistics and harbor-related industries. The Research Institute, and the Nansha IT Park, will no doubt play a substantial role in the City's development in IT, as well as being a major force in the City's development.
