| With a strong culture toward science and technology advancement, HKUST has relentlessly been exploring new research tasks, questions and topics, taking the realm of research to greater depths. Over the years, HKUST's faculty has earned international recognition and repute for their research work. Armed with the desire to make greater, more significant contributions to the economic and technological development in the region,the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute (Research Institute) and the research centers under its umbrella, will first focus on the research and development, education exchanging programs, and personnel upgrading needs in its immediate vicinity and region.
The Research Institute's location at Nansha, at the heart of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), puts it in a good position to work with universities, institutions and businesses in Hong Kong and the PRD.
To date, 8 research centers, together with 2 central research facilities, are in operation under the auspices of the Research Institute in Nansha. They are :
