During the 2005, 2006 and 2007 calendar years, Theme Projects were announced in the areas of Trustworthy Computing, Gaming and Graphics, Mobile Computing in Education (Tablet PCs) and Internet Services (Search). Following is a summary of the subsequent awards to academics in Hong Kong who responded with Research or Curriculum submissions:-
Joint Lab GRANT
2005-“ Trustworthy Distributed Computing”, Yunhao Liu, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
2005, Professor Lionel Ni and Yunhao Liu of HKUST published their results on IEEE Transactions on Computers, entitled “Improving Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Systems by Adaptive Connection Establishment.”
2005-“ Dynamic Fine-Scale Geometry Modeling from Multiple Views”, Quan Long, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
2006-” Collaborative and Cognitive Networking”, Qian ZHANG, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
2007- “NDWIRS: A Near-Duplicate Web Image Retrieval System”, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ,Lei CHEN.
2008-“A Personalized Web Query Classi¯cation System”, Yang Quan, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology .
2005- An Embedded Systems CFP (Call-For-Proposal) grant MCCL03/04.EG01 (WinyDB: An Embedded Query Processor for Sensor Networks.,
Curriculum Collaboration
MSRA also collaborated with professors to create innovative curriculum, especially in the area of operating systems.
2005 , Professor Jogesh Muppala of HKUST published a paper in Workshop of Embedded System Education 2005, entitled “Experience with an Embedded System Software Course,” where he shared his experience with designing and offering a senior undergraduate course on Embedded Systems Software based mainly on Windows CE.
