The "Pan-PRD Research Station" of South China Research Center is a place for data collection and repository, serving as a research, teaching, training, and resource base. It aims to become a nodal focus in the international academic network connecting China to the world.
Since the Ming period, the Pearl River Delta region has gradually developed its major forms of special local organizations, distinctive cultures, customs, and languages. South China has a long history of emigration to Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. The region is not only an excellent venue for studying local cultures and societies, but also an ideal context for examining Chinese diasporas. It has been an important region for anthropological and historical research, from which groundbreaking theories on lineage organization, family and marriage, and popular religion have been developed.
